Poha (Flattened Rice)

Poha is a dish made from Flattened or Beaten Rice, potatoes, peanuts, coconut and very mild spices. Perfect for breakfast, lunch or tea, Poha is light and flavorful. According to Hindu mythology, Flattened Rice was one of Sri Krishna‘s favorites. Don’t be surprised if Poha turns out to be your favorite as well.

This kit yields 2 (by itself)/4 (as side dish) servings.

Included in this meal kit: Flattened Rice, Mustard seeds, Cumin Mix (Cumin, Split Matpe Beans and Split Bengal Gram), Coconut Mix (Turmeric, Asafetida powder, Dried red chilies, Dry coconut and Dry mango powder) and Peanuts. Directions are inside the meal kit.

You will need (not included in this bag)…

A little less than ¼ cup of water for cooking; extra for soaking flattened rice

  • 1 tbsp. cooking oil
  • ½ inch ginger chopped fine
  • 2 medium size potatoes, peeled and cubed into bite-sized pieces
  • Chopped cilantro (for garnish)
  • 1 medium size onion chopped fine (Optional)
  • Salt, to taste

 

Note: Asafetida powder contains trace amounts of wheat flour.
